"What's fascinating to me about what I do is the collaborative effort. There's magic in that," says home designer Steve Vosper. "I know a lot of the technical aspects, the codes, the options, the variety available. What's interesting is bringing the client's mind into the process of designing a home." Having worked with both developers and homeowners, Steve says, "Basically what I am is a translator. I'm a good listener, and my job is to help people visualize what they want, rather than to promote my own design sale, whatever that would be. I draw my clients out in terms of what their needs are, how they live, what, to them, makes their house a home. Then I translate that into a beautiful building or addition." After studying art at the University of California at Berkeley, Steve worked for 10 years as a carpenter and contractor. In 1982 he returned to school to earn his degree in environmental design at the University of Colorado, a decision that helped tie together his natural creativity and his previous hands-on experience. He has built and designed homes in the Bay Area, Southern California and Boulder. From contemporary to traditional, from high-end homes to lower-budget remodels, Steve has a wide range of experience. SGV Design can put that experience and openness to work for you.
