Dr. Ida Rolf spent her life learning, developing and teaching her discoveries about the integration of the human structure within the context of its physical limits and about the body's relationship to gravity, energy, health and, ultimately, to metaphysics. An associate at the Rockefeller Institute with a PhD in biological chemistry from Columbia University Dr. Rolf taught that if a human structure could be integrated within the field of gravity so that all movement was in continuous balance, gravity would change from a downward, negative, entropic force into a supportive, positive, organizing force. Firmly rooted in her Western scientific and mathematical education, her insatiable curiosity and intelligence lead her to explore Eastern practices, as well as chiropractic, homeopathy, osteopathy and other healing practices. She was a pioneer and visionary with a most important gift.
Until her death in 1979, she continued to develop and teach the practice now known as Structural Integration, an approach to working with and educating the body. By manipulating the connective tissues, the Structural Integration practitioner corrects imbalances by relating the body to gravity. Posture improves, chronic pain is relieved and length comes into the body allowing muscles the space to work properly and the joints freedom to function. By realigning the physical structure, the potential of the Being is opened. The sensation of moving from weakness into strength, the exhilaration of owning a new part of oneself, the immediate reeducation of one's being and functioning, the joy of self-empowerment: These are the experiences of Structural Integration.
The Guild for Structural Integration is a school dedicated to the traditional teaching of Dr. Rolf. Affordable training classes are offered year-round in Boulder and other locations. GSI offers Basic Training in the Dr. Ida P. Rolf Method of Structural Integration, Continuing Education, Advanced Trainings and an Introductory course in anatomy and physiology. Most of the classes are taught by teachers with more than 20 years in the field, who had direct contact and guidance from Dr. Rolf.
GSI also offers the 10 sessions of Structural Integration in its classes at a reduced rate of $250. It is a great and economical way to receive the work in a safe, respectful learning environment. The staff is also able to refer you to a private practitioner.
