Andy Katz
Mackin-Katz Gallery brings to Boulder not only the photographs of its own renowned Andy Katz, but the work of other internationally known and exhibited artists, as well.
The work of Andy Katz has won the prestigious Oriental Seagull Award from Oriental Photo Japn. His collectors include UNICEF, the Emperor and Empress of Japan, actress Liv Ullman, photographer Yosef Karsh and former Philippine President Corazon Aquino. His work is exhibited at museums throughout the world; his portfolios "The Changing Face of Judaism," "Children of the World" and "Japan" toured the U.S. in 1995. He has traveled and photographed in over 85 countries. A photographic purist, he believes in the natural, unposed image and composition he sees without filters or gimmicks, in both the camera and the darkroom.
Besides ceramics, fine art furniture, beautiful jewelry and wearable art, the gallery features:
Greg Gorman's masterful and sensitive black-and-white nudes and his portraits of luminaries like Micheal Jackson, Marlon Brando and Sophia Loren.
Doug Coffin's powerful totem sculptures, shown at the Smithsonian Institute's new Museum of the American Indian. His work also has been featured in Time and Smithsonian magazines.
The vintage photographs of Philippe Halsman, whose celebrity portraits appeared on the covers of Life Magazine more than 100 times.
Taos painter Bill Rane, who is acclaimed for his layered canvasses and his concern with light.
The portfolios of the Cuban father-son photographers, Oswaldo and Roberto Salas.
And the blown glass of John Nickerson and of New Mexico artist Charlie Miner, who after 18 years is now exploring the ancient technique of fuse casting.
Located down the stairs between Pour La France and Mac Laren/Markowitz Gallery.
